Forces from practically all European countries and troops from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and other British commonwealth countries fought in trench warfare during the first World War. The main opponents were Germany, The Austro-Hungarian Empire, Bulgaria and Turkey against France, Britain, Belgium, Russia and their allies.
